Aston Villa is concerned that their top player may be interested in a move to Manchester City.
There are reports suggesting that Manchester City is looking into bringing back Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa next summer, considering the player’s contract has around two years remaining.
The 25-year-old midfielder has played a crucial role in Aston Villa’s recent successes under Unai Emery, helping them reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League and stay within three points of Premier League leaders Liverpool. In 26 matches this season, Luiz has directly contributed to eight Premier League goals.
Originally signed by Aston Villa for £15 million in 2019 from Manchester City, where he arrived from Vasco Da Gama, Luiz spent a loan spell at City Football Group’s Girona before moving to Villa Park. Despite the expiration of the buy-back clause in his contract, Manchester City, which initially included both a sell-on and buy-back clause, is reportedly interested in re-signing the Brazilian midfielder, especially as he approaches the final two years of his current deal with Aston Villa.
Football Insider indicates that Manchester City has a ‘strong interest’ in bringing back Douglas Luiz. Meanwhile, Arsenal, who faced rejections for several bids last year, has also renewed their interest in the midfielder. The competition for Luiz’s signature appears to be intensifying with both Manchester City and Arsenal vying for his services.
