MANCHESTER CITY
Coach Pep Guardiola called Bellingham for three hours in an attempt to get him to join Man City in order to work with Haaland.
Consequently, what happened? Bellingham’s €131 million (£114 million/$138 million) transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid seemed to be among the easiest deals of the summer, as it was completed with the least amount of drama by mid-June. However, it’s now known that there was some turmoil behind the scenes when City made a late bid that included paying Dortmund more and paying the player more.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: According to Cadena Ser, Guardiola and Bellingham had a three-hour discussion before City made their bold transfer. During that conversation, the manager attempted to convince Bellingham that joining the Premier League would be a better option and that City was at a better developmental stage than Real Madrid.
In the end, Bellingham declined the more lucrative offer since he was committed to moving to Spain. Guardiola wished Bellingham and Real Madrid well on their move while expressing respect for the decision.
