A transfer list for Manchester United from Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure was once leaked online.
An intriguing look can be found in a transfer list that was once leaked online from Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United days.
Ferguson had a trophy-filled tenure at Manchester United, winning an astounding 13 Premier League championships in his time at Old Trafford.
Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ campaign saw them win the league title in 2002–03, but the Red Devils were unable to defend their title.
Ferguson, however, did not succeed in signing all of his transfer targets prior to the 2003–04 season.
Three of his five objectives were successfully acquired by the club; the players he desired at the time were disclosed on a transfer list.
The names of every player the team had at the time were on the list.
They were classed by position and by worth to the renowned Scot’s squad, with talents like Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Roy Keane highlighted.
Some players, like Diego Forlan and Nicky Butt, were included in the ‘excess’ area.
In the ‘young potential’ category were, among others, Mads Timm, Chris Eagles, and Phil Bardsley.
The last section contained Ferguson’s transfer objectives, which included forward Alan Smith and defenders Gabriel Heinze, Philippe Mexes, Vincent Kompany, and Gerard Pique.
Heinze, Pique, and Smith were the three players on his list that Man United eventually signed.
Regarding Mexes and Kompany, they both resided in Auxerre and Anderlecht, respectively, prior to making future moves.
Mexes signed a contract with AS Roma in 2004, while Kompany moved to Hamburg in 2006 before deciding to sign with Manchester City, where he went on to become a legend inside the team.
Ferguson failed to get the players he desired, and as a result, Man United missed out on three league titles.
