Kalvin Phillips has just become the most hated player in the Premier League after leaving Manchester City to join premier league rivals!

Since September, Kalvin Phillips has only played 19 minutes in one Premier League match. To prepare for Euro 2024, this is not a wise course of action. Given that he has only appeared in two of the ten games this season, it is hardly shocking that he will be departing Manchester City this month.

Since arriving here in 2022, he has participated in 31 games, only six of which have been starts. And even though Phillips entered the game to challenge Rodri for the starting berth, Rodri improved and is currently the top defensive player in the world.

Even when Rodri hasn’t been well, Pep Guardiola hasn’t used him much on the pitch. Even though Phillips played in the Club World Cup semi-final victory over Urawa Red Diamonds about a month ago, he hasn’t confirmed that he won’t be leaving in January.

Clubs with a passion for Phillips

While Sandro Tonali serves his 10-month betting penalty, Newcastle is the team most frequently mentioned as a potential suitor for the player. The Magpies may not be able to act immediately due to concerns over Financial Fair Play

According to a number of news reports, Tottenham is currently in the running for the player. It has also been suggested that Fulham and Crystal Palace would be interested parties. Before Juventus announced that they were withdrawing from the match, there were long-running rumours concerning them.

Long-term leave or a loan?

Unless someone makes an unacceptably high offer, a loan is most certainly the best option. With four and a half years remaining on his deal, Phillips would command a hefty price in the summer, when teams might have more cash on hand. Given that Newcastle will have Tonali back in August and is aware of FFP, they would be more interested in that option. However, teams might decide otherwise if City demands a loan fee for the 28-year-old.

What Phillips has stated regarding life following this

“He (Gareth Southgate) just says I have to play games to keep my spot, and that’s what I want to do,” Phillips remarked in October while playing for England. In such instance, I concur with Gareth and acknowledge my need for gaming

I’ll have to make a decision about whether or not to compete every week during the coming months. It is undoubtedly enormous. I want to play football as much as I can because I’m a driven individual and I want to be a football player.

I’ll have to consider that because I haven’t been able to do it for the past 1.5 years due to injuries and other issues. I’m hoping that my opportunity will present itself, but if not, I’ll have to consider my option

What Guardiola mentioned regarding Phillips’ future

“Kalvin is a player with us, I don’t want to anticipate anything at all,” Guardiola stated in response to a December question regarding a potential new signing. Everyone is aware of the situation.
