Liverpool squad payslips ‘leaked’ and shows huge worth of Mohamed Salah and others

A club icon has shared a payslip from a legendary Liverpool team online, illuminating the real worth of players like Mohamed Salah and others who have more recently been club stars.

Even now, some of the best Premier League players make astonishing salaries—up to £300,000 a week.

Kevin De Bruyne, the hero of Manchester City, is the highest-paid player in the English premier league, reportedly earning a whooping £400,000 a week, according to TEAMtalk.

When you compare those percentages to the early days of the old First Division, when most players were still working two or even three jobs to make ends meet, the stats seem even more staggering.

Legendary Liverpool striker John Aldridge uploaded a screenshot of his squad payslip dated August 1960 on Twitter, sharing his discovery with followers.

This occurred when Liverpool was still playing in the Second Division of English football; Bill Shankly would not elevate them to the top tier until 1962.

Nonetheless, the team is full of well-known players; among them are Ian Callaghan and Roger Hunt, the winners of the 1966 World Cup, who also happen to make the highest salaries at the team.

But those players made £23 a week, or around £663 in today’s money, significantly less than the hundreds of thousands we see now.

In addition, if they performed well enough, certain players received a £4 bonus, which would have increased their weekly pay by about £115.

Coach Bob Paisley, who would go on to become one of the most successful managers the club has ever had, was paid £17 a week (about £490 today), while Joe Fagan, who eventually succeeded him, was paid £16 (£461).

A player in 1960 would have had to have earned about £12,150 a week (via in2013dollars), without bonuses, for those players to have equaled Salah’s claimed £350,000 weekly wage—he is Liverpool’s highest earner.
