Chelsea are paying for ’round-the-clock security’ for one young player after TV attack
Because of the growing unrest in Ecuador, Chelsea is required to offer the new recruit and his family round-the-clock security.
It was officially announced on June 5, 2023, that 16-year-old Kendry Paez will sign with Chelsea and make his debut with the new team in 2025, following his 18th birthday.
The adolescent will stay at Independiente del Valle until then, but the London club is having to take further precautions due to the present political situation in Ecuador.
With worries about gang violence on the rise, armed men wearing masks hijacked a live TV broadcast in the nation last week.
In retaliation, the South American nation declared war on the nation’s armed gangs.
The BBC quoted Daniel Naboa, the president of Ecuador, as saying: “We are fighting every day so that we do not become a narco-state.” I really think that we can prevail in this battle, and I won’t give up until we do.
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea is presently footing the bill for Paez and his family’s round-the-clock protection.
The 16-year-old playmaker has already been to several Premier League games at Stamford Bridge and visited Cobham to meet his future teammates.
At the age of just 15, the Ecuadorian teenager scored on his Independiente debut, and ever since then, his career has taken off.
At just 16 years and 161 days old, Paez became the youngest goal scorer in Ecuador’s history as well as the youngest player to score in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers. Paez has already earned five senior caps for the country.
