Erling Haaland’s immediate reaction to Cristiano Ronaldo calling himself the ‘best goalscorer’ has got everyone talking
At the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards presentation, Cristiano Ronaldo referred to himself as the “best goalscorer” in world football. Erling Haaland was prompted to respond to the statement.
After scoring 54 goals for Al Nassr and Portugal at the end of the 2023 season, Ronaldo really held the record for most goals scored in the world’s top divisions.
Haaland scored 50 for City and Norway, while Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe tied for second place with 52.
If completely fit, the reigning Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League winner would have had a realistic opportunity to surpass Ronaldo’s 54 goals, but he missed the final seven games of the season due to injury.
Ronaldo reminded everyone of his record during his speech at the Globe Soccer Awards, which honour the best players and football figures of the previous year.
“I was the best goal scorer,” he declared. I’m proud since I had to defeat the juvenile lions, like Haaland, for instance.”
While the 38-year-old said his comment with a laugh at the end, the cameras then cut to Haaland – who had a deadpan look.

He did then produce a smirk, though, with Ronaldo adding: “And I still look good, so I’m proud.”
Ronaldo is a nominee in several categories for the honours, which will be unveiled at a gala in Dubai.
Lionel Messi and Ronaldo dominated the first round of public vote for the Best Men’s Player award, according to Globe Soccer’s official website.
Ronaldo is one of the top candidates for the newly created Best Middle East Player award and is also on the shortlist for Fans’ Favourite Player.
The Best FIFA Men’s Player title went to Lionel Messi earlier this week, while the Al Nassr star was not nominated.
Despite his amazing goal scoring statistics, Ronaldo was not included on the final shortlist for the 2023 Ballon d’Or for the first time since 2003.
