Transfer news: Brian Brobbey to Manchester United. Would this move work?

In the January transfer window, Ajax forward Brian Brobbey has been linked to Manchester United, and initially, it appears like the move is 50/50.

According to our German counterparts at Sky, Erik ten Hag is negotiating a contract to sign 21-year-old Brobbey this month. The adolescent Dutch attacker was traded to RB Leipzig after rising through the ranks at Ajax under ETH.

That move didn’t work out, and in the previous two seasons, he has scored 21 goals in 48 league appearances for Ajax after returning to the team temporarily in January 2022 and then permanently in the summer of 2022. In the past, Brobbey has mentioned that Erik ten Hag was interested in signing him to United.

How would Brian Brobbey fit in at Manchester United?

This would be another instance of Erik ten Hag signing athletes that he is quite familiar with.

After developing strong ties with the Dutch coach, Lisandro Martinez, Andre Onana, and Sofyan Amrabat all joined United, though their respective transfers had varying degrees of success.

However, it’s evident that United need more offensive support, and Erik ten Hag’s only true centre forward alternatives are Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund, as Anthony Martial’s contract is scheduled to expire this summer.

Brobbey would be a good fit for United’s playing style. He would fit in nicely with United’s counter-attacking approach, which they have returned to in recent weeks. He is quick and skilled at moving forward with the ball.
