A former Liverpool player suggests that three indispensable players from the team might consider leaving following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

Following Jurgen Klopp’s announcement of his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season, a former player has suggested that three key members of the team could potentially leave.

Klopp revealed on Friday that he would be stepping down as Liverpool manager, citing exhaustion as the reason for his decision. During his nine-year tenure at the club, Klopp has secured nearly every major trophy available.

Under Klopp’s guidance, Liverpool clinched the Champions League title in 2019, followed by their first Premier League triumph in 30 years during the subsequent season.

Former Liverpool player Jason McAteer suggests that Jurgen Klopp’s departure in the summer could influence the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

All three players have contracts expiring in 18 months, with Salah notably linked to a potential departure from Merseyside in the past.

In the summer, Liverpool rejected a verbal offer of £150 million from Al Ittihad for Salah.

McAteer, speaking to beIN Sports, remarked, “Van Dijk credits Klopp for his decision to join Liverpool. However, another crucial aspect is player retention.”

He continued, “We’re aware of the speculation surrounding Mo Salah’s potential departure at the end of the season, and the uncertainty surrounding that situation.”

McAteer highlighted, “But considering that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have contracts expiring in 18 months, it’s a pivotal moment. With Klopp at the helm, it’s likely they would extend their contracts and continue the journey. However, under a new manager, there’s uncertainty. Results could potentially go in a different direction. When contract negotiations commence, we might have two different managers, and the team’s trajectory could be in question.”

And they will leave. So, all that is uncertainty as well.”

Liverpool skipper Van Dijk was among the first Liverpool players to speak out over Klopp’s shock announcement.

“It’s a tough pill to swallow because the manager holds such significance for us, for me personally, for the club, and I believe for the entire Premier League,” Van Dijk expressed to Liverpool.com. “However, he made the decision with his family in mind. It was always going to be a difficult decision, and it certainly proved to be the case.”
