DIALLO THE NEXT MAN IN TROUBLE

Amad Diallo faces the possibility of angering Erik ten Hag after initially endorsing, and later deleting, a contentious post related to Manchester United.

Amad Diallo has potentially angered Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag by briefly endorsing and then retracting a post about the club.

Despite being available, the winger remained unused on the bench during Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round victory against Newport County. Instead, ten Hag chose to introduce teenager Omari Forson in place of Antony during the second half.

Diallo made a substitute appearance in December’s 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest, showcasing his abilities despite not being fully match fit.

Since joining Manchester United from Atalanta in 2020, the 21-year-old has struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup.

During the previous season, Diallo was loaned out to Sunderland in the Championship.

After Manchester United’s win, a post was liked on Diallo’s X account, featuring him wearing a Sunderland shirt with the caption: “Here, Amad Diallo – if they’re not going to start you in the FA Cup away at Newport County, it really really isn’t worth you giving them your time. Come home, come somewhere you are truly appreciated.”

Diallo’s account has subsequently removed the like from the post. Sunderland currently holds the seventh position in the Championship, tied on points with Coventry City, who occupy the final play-off spot.

Sunderland manager Michael Beale has expressed interest in bringing Diallo back to Wearside, aiming to bolster their promotion aspirations.

Beale explained to ChronicleLive, “We’ve communicated clearly that we’re interested, but Manchester United also highly value him.” He further elaborated, “While there’s potential for him to have an intriguing second half of the season with us, if he were to go out on loan, they understand our interest in bringing him back.”

Setting aside financial considerations, Beale emphasized Diallo’s positive experience at Sunderland, stating, “He enjoyed his time here, had strong support from the fans, and was well-liked in the dressing room.” Beale expressed his initial interest in Diallo upon joining Sunderland, highlighting, “If it’s feasible, we’d pursue it,” while acknowledging Manchester United’s recognition of Diallo’s talent.
