Rumours circulating that Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti asked for Karim Benzema to rejoin the team have been denied. After 14 years at the Bernabeu, Benzema joined Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League last summer. But the 36-year-old looks uneasy in Saudi Arabia and wants to go back to Europe. Ancelotti stated at a press conference that he has not discussed any potential return for Benzema with the team, refuting allegations that he was involved.

Ancelotti also responded to Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s claim that La Liga is “corrupted,” implying that match officials give Real Madrid preferential treatment. This comes after Madrid, in a controversial 3-2 victory against Almería, benefited from three VAR interventions

The coach also made reference to the Negreira issue, which involves Laporta and Barcelona and involves accusations of bribery and corruption about payments made to Jose María Enriquez Negreira, the former vice president of the Spanish officiating committee. Ancelotti refrained from making any additional comments on the subject, emphasising the necessity to give law enforcement and the Spanish Civil Guard the freedom to carry out investigations and deal with the problems inside Spanish football.

Turning attention to on-field matters, Ancelotti highlighted Real Madrid’s resilience in reclaiming the top spot in LaLiga through their ability to secure comeback victories.
