Jurgen Klopp discloses the underlying cause behind the delay in Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah agreeing to new contracts with Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s upcoming departure has raised uncertainty regarding the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

Klopp’s announcement of his departure from Liverpool after nine years last Friday has raised doubts about the futures of the key players mentioned earlier, all of whom have less than 18 months remaining on their current contracts. However, despite this uncertainty, Klopp has downplayed speculation suggesting that his departure will prompt Liverpool’s key players to also leave the club.

Klopp clarified the reason behind the players’ contract situation, stating that it would have been inappropriate to secure long-term deals for players before they were aware of his future plans.

“The club has been aware of my impending departure for some time. Why commit the players to long contracts when I won’t be here? That’s not how you conduct business,” Klopp informed the media.

“They understandably want more clarity. It’s a normal process, and these things take time. To those at home, please don’t worry. Everything is under control. The players have a strong attachment to this club, and I know that for certain.”

“No, I don’t believe so. It’s entirely reasonable. It’s expected that there will be little time to process things externally. Just a week ago, no one was aware of my situation,” explained the 56-year-old.

Even with 18 months left on their contracts and no inquiries made, there’s no need for concern. Rest assured, the club is stable, and I’m confident everything will work out fine. I recommend staying calm.

“Often, fans’ worries aren’t as significant as they may seem. We shouldn’t underestimate the intelligence of our supporters,” Klopp reiterated.

Although Klopp is firm in his belief that the three players are content, recent comments from Van Dijk do lend credence to the possibility of a significant shake-up at Anfield.

Following Sunday’s 5-2 victory against Championship side Norwich City in the FA Cup, when captain Van Dijk was asked if he envisions himself being part of Liverpool’s new era, his response was concerning. The Dutchman reportedly stated, via The Times: “That’s a big question. Well, I don’t know.”

Despite Van Dijk’s uncertain remarks, Klopp attempted to alleviate concerns during today’s press conference, stating: “Virgil didn’t explicitly say that; it’s always about the questions we’re asked. We have to address these kinds of things. Write whatever you like, this club is stable, 100%. Everything will be fine, I’m 100% sure.”
