Chelsea to let player leave after Liverpool thrashing as Mauricio Pochettino decides he doesn’t need him

Chelsea has opted to part ways with one of their forwards following their heavy defeat to Liverpool. Mauricio Pochettino’s team suffered a humiliating 4-1 loss against Liverpool at Anfield, marking their ninth Premier League defeat of the season and leaving them 12 points adrift of the top four.

Armando Broja, a 22-year-old striker, remained on the bench throughout the match, despite Chelsea facing an uphill battle in the second half. Despite receiving numerous loan offers for the Albania international over the past two transfer windows – including one from Wolves in January – Chelsea has rejected them, aiming instead to either offload the striker outright or agree to a loan deal with an obligation to purchase.

On deadline day, Chelsea has reportedly softened its stance and is now open to a straightforward loan deal for Broja, provided it includes a substantial fee and guarantees of significant playing time. Fulham is also said to be interested in the player, alongside Wolves.

Despite remaining on the bench during the match, Broja witnessed Christopher Nkunku scoring a consolation goal for Chelsea. The return of injured players, including Christopher Nkunku, who has only made four league appearances this season, and Nicolas Jackson from the Africa Cup of Nations, has rendered Broja surplus to requirements.

Broja has made 19 appearances across all competitions this season, registering two goals and two assists.

According to The Athletic, Broja’s departure from the club could take various forms, including a permanent transfer or a loan deal with an obligation to buy. Alternatively, he might remain at Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the season.

If the latter option materializes, the club will review Broja’s situation during the summer. Broja extended his contract with Chelsea until 2028 in September 2022.

The Chelsea academy product showcased his talent during a loan spell at Southampton in the 2021/22 season, netting six goals in 32 Premier League appearances.
