đ¨ Disciplinary actions taken on Jude Bellingham over controversial statement to mason Greenwood

Getafe has lodged a complaint with La Liga authorities following an incident where Jude Bellingham, the Real Madrid midfielder, purportedly referred to Mason Greenwood, currently on loan from Manchester United, as a ‘rapist’ during a La Liga match on Thursday night.
The 22-year-old, on loan from Manchester United, was suspended by his club in January 2022 due to allegations involving a young woman, following the circulation of images and videos online, before joining Getafe on transfer deadline day in the summer.
Greenwood faced charges of attempted rape and assault, but the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February that the case had been dropped.
Following an internal investigation, reports hinted at Manchester United’s potential move to reintegrate Greenwood into their squad at Old Trafford. However, the club disclosed at the end of August that he would depart by mutual agreement after facing public backlash.
During Real Madrid’s 2-0 triumph over Getafe on February 1, an incident unfolded between Jude Bellingham and Mason Greenwood. The altercation arose when the Manchester United loanee tackled Bellingham near the touchline. While audio did not capture the precise words uttered by Bellingham, television footage revealed the England midfielder mouthing a two-syllable word towards Greenwood as the ball went out of play.
Following Mason Greenwood’s transfer from Manchester United to Spain, the recent encounter marked the first time he faced Jude Bellingham on the field. Now, the spotlight is on Bellingham as La Liga officials investigate the alleged slur directed at Greenwood. Former La Liga referee Iturralde Gonzalez commented on the situation during an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena SER, suggesting that if the accusations hold true, Bellingham could face sanctions. However, he also noted that Getafe could defend their player by presenting the case to the Competition Committee with evidence, allowing them to accuse Bellingham based on the captured images. Ultimately, the League will proceed with its investigation, but Getafe’s actions could shape the outcome of the proceedings.
