Two Chelsea players ‘deactivate their social media accounts’ after horrific abuse from supporters gets too much

Two Chelsea players have opted to deactivate their social media profiles following harassment from supporters.
Chelsea, currently occupying the tenth position in the English Premier League, are facing challenges as Mauricio Pochettino attempts to optimize the large squad provided by co-owner Todd Boehly. Since taking over from former owner Roman Abramovich, Boehly has overseen a spending spree exceeding £1 billion. This investment has seen the arrival of notable players such as Raheem Sterling, Enzo Fernandez, Wesley Fofana, and Moises Caicedo, among others.
In their recent outing, Chelsea faced a crushing 4-1 defeat at Anfield, narrowly escaping a more severe result due to Darwin Nunez’s lack of clinical finishing. The Uruguayan struck the woodwork four times, including a missed penalty. Later this month, Chelsea will clash with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool again in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on February 25. Despite the prospect of silverware, fans are becoming increasingly discontented with the team’s performances, considering the significant investment in transfers in recent years.
As frustrations mount, fans have directed their ire towards the players, leading to two key members of the first-team squad deactivating their social media accounts, notably X (formerly Twitter), due to the abuse they received from fans..

Ecuadorian midfielder Caicedo and Argentinian World Cup winner Fernandez are the two players who removed themselves from social media. Fernandez joined from Benfica in a £103 million deal in January 2023, while Caicedo sealed a £100 million switch from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer.
Chelsea will now face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday in their next fixture, as Pochettino and his squad look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
