Jurgen Klopp refuses to help choose Liverpool successor – like Sir Alex did at Man Utd

Jurgen Klopp has explained his decision not to assist Liverpool in the search for his replacement, just hours after surprising the football world with his announcement to depart at the season’s end.

Jurgen Klopp has stated that he won’t be involved in the selection process for his successor at Liverpool. The announcement of his departure at the end of the season has stunned the football world, with the German citing a depletion of energy after nearly nine years in charge.

Klopp, aged 56, addressed the media this afternoon to provide further insight into his surprising decision. He emphasized that he would not be involved in selecting Liverpool’s next manager, contrasting with Sir Alex Ferguson’s involvement in appointing David Moyes as his successor at Manchester United in 2013.

“No, why should I? In this world we have a few faces, managers of the club and others you don’t see often,” said Klopp.

“It looks like I do all the work, I don’t, I can’t. What we built over the last eight and a half years is a strong structure behind the scenes. It’s one of the reasons I can leave.

“We executed it as well as we could, although not perfectly. Currently, my hope is to assist them in achieving their utmost potential.” Klopp asserted that there was no possibility of reversing his decision, unlike Ferguson’s reversal on stepping down. He remarked, “Alex Ferguson stepped down and then changed his mind? No. I had to make a decision because nobody else would have, because the respect is there for each other.”

“I thought it through properly and if I won everything this season it wouldn’t change my mind and if we won nothing it wouldn’t change my mind, it is a decision independent of results. That is why it’s a good moment to give it to someone else.”

After stepping away from the game for a period, Klopp is anticipated to resume his position on the sidelines at some juncture, with speculation swirling that he may eventually assume the role of the German national team manager. However, the former Borussia Dortmund tactician emphasized, “I have not contemplated that possibility as I haven’t had the opportunity to do so. I am unfamiliar with what constitutes a normal life, so I need to discover that. Rest assured, I will find avenues to occupy myself, so there’s no cause for concern.”
