Huge blow for Liverpool in Premier League title race with crucial player set to miss Man City clash

Liverpool’s quest to clinch the Premier League title this season may face a significant setback. Jurgen Klopp’s side has been in impressive form, occupying the top spot in the league standings. However, doubts have emerged regarding their title aspirations following a lackluster display in their 3-1 loss to Arsenal. Consequently, Liverpool’s lead at the summit of the table has been narrowed to a mere two points.

With the return of Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland to the Manchester City lineup, Pep Guardiola’s squad is now considered the clear frontrunners to secure the league title once more.

Furthermore, reports suggest that Liverpool may face a significant injury setback ahead of their pivotal encounter against City, scheduled for March 10th.

According to Index, midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai may be sidelined for up to four weeks due to a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

Szoboszlai initially encountered the hamstring issue during the match against Newcastle in January. Despite returning to the squad for the victory over Chelsea last week, he was notably absent from the squad that faced Arsenal on Sunday.

Should Szoboszlai indeed face a four-week absence, he would also be unavailable for the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.

However, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Ian Doyle, there has been no specific timeline set for Szoboszlai’s return.

He wrote on social media: “Bit of confusion over Dominik Szoboszlai injury absence.

“Hungarian outlet that hinted at up to a month out last night has since backtracked a bit and said time out has yet to be determined. #LFC have yet to put any timescale on it.”

Speaking about Szoboszlai, Klopp said: “Doma felt pain in the same or at least very close part of his thigh as where his injury was before.

“During the match [against Chelsea] he was fine, but afterwards he felt a bit, so we looked at him and unfortunately it became clear to us that he has no chance to play in today’s match.”

He then added : “We cannot take any risk. We have to wait for further assessment but it was clear that he cannot be involved today. That’s it, pretty much.”
