Pep Guardiola’s choice to bench Jack Grealish for Manchester City’s match against Brentford on Monday prompted a notable reaction from the player. Manchester City aims to extend their winning streak following their FIFA Club World Cup triumph with another Premier League win, aiming to narrow the gap to Liverpool to just two points.

Pep Guardiola’s squad has the chance to ascend to the summit of the Premier League table by securing wins against Brentford and Everton in the upcoming week. However, it’s worth noting that the west London club managed to defeat Manchester City twice last season, both at the Etihad Stadium and the Gtech Community Stadium.

On Monday night, the Sky Blues have the opportunity to stretch their ongoing unbeaten run to 12 games. This match also marks the first time since August that forward duo Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland will be starting together.

De Bruyne is set to make only his third Premier League appearance of the season, while Haaland is making his first start since a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa in early December.

Guardiola also opted to start Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, and Julian Alvarez, signaling several changes from the squad that secured a 3-1 victory against Burnley on Wednesday night.

However, Guardiola’s lineup decision seems to have stirred some discontent within the first-team squad, with attacker Jack Grealish reportedly unhappy about being named on the bench for the fourth consecutive time.

According to MCFCTone on X, Jack Grealish expressed his discontent about being placed on the substitutes’ bench for Manchester City’s trip to West London to face Brentford on Monday night. Reportedly, he left the club’s training session early following this decision.

The 28-year-old has not been in the starting lineup for Manchester City since their 5-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Huddersfield Town in early January. However, he did make a substitute appearance in last week’s win against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.

Jack Grealish has started 18 matches for Manchester City this season but has been named as an unused substitute on five occasions.
