Liverpool could break unwritten rule to keep Jurgen Klopp for another season as ‘stumbling block’ revealed

Liverpool may extend Jurgen Klopp’s tenure for another season if they finalize a significant transfer deal. Reports emerged on Monday suggesting that Kylian Mbappe’s anticipated transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid has encountered a setback. The Independent reported that negotiations between Mbappe and Real Madrid regarding his salary are proving challenging, with an agreement still distant. Consequently, Mbappe’s representatives have reportedly considered potential moves to Liverpool and Arsenal. However, neither Premier League club is currently willing to disrupt their wage structure to secure the French forward’s signature.

Indeed, Liverpool have previously shown interest in Mbappe, and Klopp has openly praised the French forward on multiple occasions.

Last year, amidst speculation linking Liverpool with Mbappe, Klopp told Sky Germany: “We laugh about it. I can say that I think he is a really good player. But the financial framework conditions don’t suit us at all.”

Similarly, Mbappe has previously voiced his admiration for Liverpool and Klopp. In 2020, he told the Mirror: “This season Liverpool have been a machine in the Premier League.”

“They have made winning look easy – but the truth is that is never easy. To be as ruthless as they have been would come from having a very good manager and lots of hard work in training. Performances like they have been having don’t just happen.”

If Liverpool were to unexpectedly break their wage structure to secure Mbappe’s signature, it might bolster the club’s prospects of retaining Klopp for another season. The German manager surprised the football world in January by declaring his intention to leave the Reds at the end of the season, regardless of the team’s performance for the remainder of the campaign.

However, the enticing prospect of coaching arguably the world’s best player, who is still some years away from reaching the peak of his powers, might prompt Klopp to reconsider his decision.
