XABI ALONSO RESPONSE TO REPLACING JURGEN KLOPP IN LIVERPOOL

Consequently, what happened?
After he managed to maintain Bayer Leverkusen undefeated in the Bundesliga after 21 games this season, Alonso has taken the European football scene by storm. They are now enjoying a five-point advantage at the top of the table after recently crushing German powerhouse Bayern Munich in a league match.
Several elite European teams, notably Liverpool and Bayern Munich, have expressed interest in signing the Spaniard due to his performance at Leverkusen; nevertheless, Simon Rolfes, sporting director at Die Werkself, thinks the player will remain with the team once the current 2023–24 campaign concludes.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID
In an interview with SPORT1, Xabi said, “Yes I’m sure. One is contract constellations. The other thing is how comfortable I feel, the family, myself and that I know what I have in the club. Also I have a very good team, we will have a very good perspective next year and there is no change in the team.
“We will definitely have a top team available next year. These are all points that, in addition to contracts, coaches like Xabi but also players who arouse interest from other clubs often keep us with us.”
Bayern Leverkusen chief added, “He surprises me every now and then. What we and he always say internally: Everyone has their role and we have a good squad. Everyone has the quality to play a good role. Xabi has the courage to not only commit to an eleven but also to say: I’ll adapt the system and bring other guys onto the pitch. We are not trapped in the system that is based on how we play football.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Alonso has been connected to a transfer to the Merseyside club since Jurgen Klopp declared last month that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the current campaign. Jamie Carragher, their former defender, has even pushed the Reds to pursue the Spanish coach in the summer. Alonso has been linked to transfers to Chelsea and Bayern Munich in addition to Liverpool.
