LEROY SANE SET TO JOIN LIVERPOOL AS BAYERN MUNICH STRUGGLES CONTINUES AS LIVERPOOL SAYS FAREWELL TO POPULAR STAR

Liverpool has a history of overspending during the January transfer window.

The Reds have been very successful in their winter acquisitions; among of their more notable recent transactions have been Virgil van Dijk, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo. It would be foolish to deny Liverpool the opportunity to enter the market once more this season, given their strong position in the race for the championship at season’s conclusion.

Mirror Football tried its hand at securing a few agreements ahead of Jurgen Klopp and company’s arrival with the club’s winter warchest.

As there aren’t many players on the team who are eager to leave right away, let’s begin with one that is sure to spark controversy. Thiago Alcantara has to leave now.

In the summer of 2020, Bayern Munich signed the Spaniard to considerable fanfare. Though they have been few and few between, there have been a few encouraging moments (his stunning goal against Porto being one of the highlights).

Injury has limited Thiago to just 67 league games. It may be time to split ways in January as his contract expires in the summer. It’s doubtful that he won’t have many suitors because Saudi and La Liga teams have already been connected to him.

Allowing a few young players to go on loan could also be a smart move, provided they stay away from established first-team stars. Conor Bradley hasn’t played in the Premier League this season since he’s been recovering from a back injury, so it might be a good idea to look for the young right-back with a Championship team.

It goes without saying that Liverpool needs more options to carry the goalscoring load, especially with Mo Salah scheduled to leave Merseyside for the African Cup of Nations. A player with a track record of success in the Premier League would be a great choice.

Leroy Sane, a German wide player, was a standout player for Manchester City and helped the team win two Premier League championships. Eventually, he was granted permission to move to Bayern Munich, where he has since demonstrated his exceptional skill as a goal-scoring winger.

He has just 18 months left on his contract at the Allianz Arena so Bayern might be willing to sell should they fail to commit him to a new deal. A move would still be expensive, mind.

Joining him, another slot in the squad that needs filling is at centre-back, particularly after Joel Matip’s long-term injury. Maxence Lacroix is a player that has regularly been linked with a move to Anfield.

During the previous several seasons with Bundesliga team Wolfsburg, he has excelled. Another player with only a season and a half left on his contract, a January transfer might not be the worst choice.

Ultimately, Trent Alexander-Arnold would be the only natural right-back for Liverpool after Bradley moved away. Kyle Walker-Peters, a former right-back for Tottenham, has performed admirably for his current team, Southampton, in the Championship this year.

He has contributed two goals and an equal number of assists to the Saints’ quest for an immediate return to the Premier League. His Southampton contract expires in 2025, just like it does for every player on this list.

Alexander-Arnold would have fierce competition from Walker-Peters, especially if Klopp moves the Reds academy graduate into the midfield.
