Why Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Luton won’t be shown on TV because of bizarre rule
On Wednesday night, Liverpool will play Luton Town in the Premier League on loan; but, for an odd reason, the match will not be televised on British television.
Given that the Premier League leaders lost to Chelsea over the weekend, Liverpool will enter the game at the top of the table, regardless of how Manchester City performs against Brentford.
Mo Salah’s return to the team, which might mark his first start since his injury recovery, is another plus for Liverpool. In a late substitute appearance against Brentford, the Egyptian scored his 15th league goal of the year. In addition, Liverpool will be watching this Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, where Jurgen Klopp hopes to ensure at least one more Trophy
Conversely, Luton intends to approach each game as though it were a cup final in their quest to disprove all of their detractors and keep their spot in the Championship.
The result of Everton’s appeal will likely be known to Rob Edwards’ team before their encounter against Liverpool, which will be crucial to their Premier League survival.
The match takes occur at 7:30 pm on a Wednesday, however despite the large stakes at both sides of the table, it will not be broadcast on television because of the 3 pm blackout.
Neither TNT Sports nor Sky Sports originally decided to broadcast the game. As such, it was set for a Saturday at 3 p.m., which happened to be the national TV football blackout period.
Because of this scheduling, neither Sky nor TNT could air the game later because their Premier League contract only allow them to screen a certain amount of games.
In the meanwhile, Bradford City vs. Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Trophy semifinal will be shown live on Sky Sports.
