MANCHESTER CITY
Pep Guardiola ‘admits’ he would only take one Manchester United star at Manchester City
According to reports, Pep Guardiola “privately admitted” that he would only select one Manchester United player to play for his Manchester City squad.
Tuesday night, City defeated Brentford by a slim 1-0 margin to take back second place in the Premier League standings.
Despite having played one fewer game than leaders Liverpool, they are now one point behind.
United is currently 12 points behind City in sixth place, a difference that is indicative of the current calibre disparity between the two teams.
Football Insider assertion Marcus Rashford is the only United player skilled enough, according to Guardiola’s unspoken claims, to start for his City team.
Even though the England has played 30 times in all competitions, Erik ten Hag’s team has only scored five goals all season.
The 26-year-old attacker will be hopeful that he has done enough to gain a berth in Gareth Southgate’s squad for this summer’s European Championships in Germany, despite not being able to build on his career-best of 30 strikes in 2022–2023.
But the rare compliments that have surfaced in recent days come from Guardiola, the manager of the crosstown opponent.
Pep is reported to have long loved Rashford and mentioned how he is the only player from United’s team who would play regularly at Manchester City, according to Football Insider.
The forward for the Red Devils inked a lucrative new contract at Old Trafford in the summer, with an estimated weekly salary of over £375,000.
This weekend, Ten Hag’s team will be playing in the Premier League against Fulham.
The former Ajax manager, who is aiming for a spot in the UEFA Champions League for next season, has acknowledged that his team still needs to put in more work to accomplish their objective.
“Yeah, we are back in the race,” admitted the Dutchman, following his side’s recent victory at Kenilworth Road.
“Still, we have to catch up. We are happy with scoring goals now.
“Also today we missed some great opportunities and I think the frontline can be more clinical. They have the abilities, but what is positive is the way we created the chances.
“Every game is a final and it’s a long road and it’s not be decided in February. So in this moment of the year, make sure that in April, you are in a position you can win. And so still we have to catch up, but we are back in the race.”
