Mason Greenwood ‘makes thoughts clear’ over Spanish FA’s Jude Bellingham investigation
Mason Greenwood is said to have expressed his opinions about the Spanish FA’s probe of Jude Bellingham, a Real Madrid player.
During Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Getafe last month, in which both players started for their respective teams, Bellingham is said to have said something to Greenwood.
After Getafe lodged a complaint with La Liga, the Spanish FA (RFEF) was notified about the purported event.
According to the story (via ESPN), during the game, comments about a potential altercation in which visiting player Jude Bellingham allegedly abused local teammate Mason Greenwood in English following a play in the game were discovered on social media.
“Numerous media outlets have reported on this incident, as evidenced in the attached incident report.”
The player, Real Madrid, and Getafe have not made any public remarks regarding the reported event.
The Sun stated on February 14 that a judge had been assigned by the RFEF to look at the complaint, and that a decision will be made within the next two weeks. An announcement regarding the case’s verdict is pending.
According to The Sun, Greenwood has requested that the matter be withdrawn because he does not want Bellingham to face consequences for any purported remarks.
The 22-year-old forward is currently on loan at Getafe from Manchester United after it was determined after an internal probe into his actions that he would depart Old Trafford with consent.
Since January 2022, when he was detained on charges of rape and assault, he has not appeared on the United pitch. He was then accused of attempting to commit rape, acting in a controlling and coercive manner, and assaulting someone in October that resulted in genuine bodily harm.
The CPS said that “a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” when they dropped the charges in February of last year.
The Athletic was informed by New United’s minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe that the team will make a “new decision” on Greenwood’s future. Ratcliffe’s INEOS firm will assume control of football operations at Old Trafford.
He said: “The process will be – understand the facts, not the hype, and then try and come to a fair decision on the basis of values, which is basically: Is he a good guy or not, and answer, could he play sincerely for Manchester United well, and would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it?”
Ratcliffe added, “When faced with problems like that, we should recognise the true consequences rather than just the hoopla. After that, we must decide fairly while keeping the club’s principles in mind. That’s what we must do, and that’s how we’ll handle it.
