Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp aims subtle dig at Man City after Trent Alexander-Arnold claim
Amidst the ongoing verbal spat between Liverpool and the Premier League winners, Jurgen Klopp has taken a jab at Manchester City.
Tensions have been rising all week ahead of Sunday’s encounter between Liverpool and City at Anfield, which could decide the Premier League title battle.
The conversation began earlier this week when Trent Alexander-Arnold asserted that Liverpool supporters value titles more than Man City supporters.
City stars Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias hit back, as did Pep Guardiola.
In response to a question regarding Alexander-Arnold’s remarks, the City manager stated: “I hope he heals quickly and returns as soon as possible.”
Now, Jurgen Klopp has made a sly jab at his team’s opponents.
“Am I allowed to say the atmosphere is second to none or is anybody going to be offended by that?” Klopp asked reporters when they inquired about the potential influence the Anfield fans could play on Sunday.
“These are the games you wish to attend and the ones you wish to play.” For us, Anfield is a major factor; it would be awkward to ask for assistance since others will provide it.
“We are really competitive and both are blessed with having good players and that is it pretty much – it’s not a rivalry.”
Regarding Alexander-Arnold’s remarks in particular, Klopp responded, “[There was] nothing wrong with what Trent said.”
“He was born in Liverpool and he has played for all the youth teams – one of our slogans is ‘this means more’ and it means more to us – what happens here means more to us.
“When we are feeling like that why shouldn’t we be allowed to say it, I am not interested it is just how he feels and I have no problem with that and I am pretty sure he showed respect as well.”
