Liverpool return to enquire about £85m player they failed to sign in 2018

Reports out of Spain suggest that Liverpool may make a move again for Rodrygo of Real Madrid. It comes after an effort was made in 2018 to sign the athlete.

Liverpool is reportedly one of the teams looking to recruit Rodrygo this summer, according to Spanish publication Sport. Real Madrid is expected to sign attackers later this year, raising questions about the Brazilian’s future.

And not just any assailants would do. Endrick, one of the best football prospects in the world, will undoubtedly arrive from Palmeiras. Although Real completed the teenager’s transfer to the Spanish capital some time ago, he won’t really move there untOf course, Kylian Mbappé will almost definitely be the more significant addition. The Frenchman’s contract expires in the summer, and it’s commonly believed that he will sign with Real Madrid.

With Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham already serving in advanced capacities for Real, Rodrygo will be pushed down the hierarchy by both additions. As a result, a number of clubs have inquired about Rodrygo; however, Real has informed them that he is not for sale.

However, the report states that things could change but only for a starting price of £85m.

LIVERPOOL BACK IN FOR RODRYGO

Rodrygo is adored by Liverpool, or at least they were in 2018. Prior to his transfer to Real Madrid, and at a somewhat lower price, the Reds attempted to sign the Brazilian.

In 2019, Elano—who was employed by Santos at the time—explained the circumstances.

“When he was still very young, there was a period of very strong negotiation from Liverpool for him to leave,” Elano said ESPN.

“The values were very low, but he wanted to go. Real’s offer later was around 30 million euros (around £25m) more.

“I had a conversation with people at Santos and I said that the boy was worth the bet [of rejecting Liverpool’s bid] and we should raise him because I would like to work with him.”

Real Madrid was offering €45 million, which meant Liverpool would have to pay about €15 million, or slightly more than £10 million, to acquire him. Naturally, Rodrygo would suddenly be much more expensive.
