Although the match between Liverpool and Manchester City on March 10 seems like a long time ago, football fans still hold this important fixture in their memories. The drama and intensity of the match hold true even after all these time. The Reds fought to an exciting draw in which John Stones had opened the score and Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty levelled it.

But despite all the enthusiasm, a scandal erupted. There was a controversial incident in the last minutes of stoppage time that left many Anfield supporters demanding punishment. With little concern for the ball and a dangerously high foot, Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku appeared to commit a blatant foul when he planted his studs into Liverpool’s No. 10 Alexis Mac Allister’s chest.

During a news conference in Belgium prior to their friendly match against England, Doku responded with a smile “of course I agree”

“No, it was a risky challenge. I could have dealt with it differently.”

“I still believe it wasn’t a penalty but I know some other referees would have given it. But it wasn’t a penalty, so I was happy.”

“Was I worried? For a moment when they were looking at the VAR and maybe looking for a penalty.”

“For me it wasn’t a penalty, but I understand why some people are angry and why the Liverpool fans believe it was a penalty.”
