Liverpool dressing room left ‘shocked for hours’ after Jurgen Klopp announcement

The Liverpool squad was left in a state of disbelief for several hours following the news of Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure. The German, who is poised to conclude his nine-year tenure at Anfield later this year, notched his 300th victory as manager as Liverpool secured a 2-1 win over Brighton.

As they continue to compete on multiple fronts, including the Premier League and the Europa League, Klopp’s successor remains undecided, although Liverpool’s triumph in the Carabao Cup adds to their ongoing ambitions.

Liverpool secured victory with goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, with Trent Alexander-Arnold still sidelined due to injury.

In an interview with Sky Sports ahead of the 2pm kick-off, the English international shared insights into the team’s reaction upon learning of Klopp’s departure announcement.

“It came as a complete shock to all of us as players. It was something we didn’t anticipate, especially when things were going so smoothly,” the 25-year-old defender explained.

“We were performing exceptionally well, competing at the top of the league, and contending on all fronts for every available trophy. We expected the good times to continue rolling in.”

“So when he tells us the news and his decision we have got to respect it obviously but it’s one of them no player wants to hear and it was one that kind of shook the dressing room for a couple of hours.

“He reminded us that we are professionals and not to let it affect our performance,” the player continued. “There will undoubtedly be a lot of distractions, but our focus should be on doing our job, winning games, and providing him with the best possible send-off.”

With four matches scheduled in the next two weeks, Liverpool aims to honor their departing manager with a successful conclusion to their pursuit of trophies.

Their next fixture sees them facing Sheffield United later this week, followed by a visit to Manchester United.
