Barcelona receive boost as key superstar will be available for Real Madrid clash
Over the weekend, Robert Lewandowski received a yellow card during the match against UD Las Palmas, bringing his total number of yellow cards in La Liga to five, resulting in an automatic one-game suspension.
Consequently, the 35-year-old will be unavailable for the upcoming match against Cadiz.
There were concerns that the striker might face a two-game suspension as per the disciplinary regulations of the Spain Football Federation, which stipulate a two-match ban for deliberate bookings.
In such a scenario, Lewandowski would have been absent for the important fixture against Real Madrid on April 21.
Only one-match ban for Lewandowski
Now, it has been officially announced that Lewandowski will serve a one-match suspension. Mundo Deportivo reported that the RFEF Competitions
Committee confirmed today that the 35-year-old will only miss one game as there was no evidence found to support claims that he deliberately earned the booking.
Referee Busquets Ferrer’s report did not indicate any attempt by the player to deliberately receive the yellow card.
“In the 81st minute, Robert Lewandowski was cautioned for the following reason: for delaying his exit from the pitch during a substitution, with the intention of wasting time,” his report read.
According to Article 119 of the Disciplinary Code, for a two-match punishment to be imposed, the referee must explicitly note the player’s deliberate booking, which was not the case.
Therefore, Lewandowski will only miss the game against Cadiz next week and will be available for the Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Similarly, Joao Cancelo and Inigo Martinez will also serve only a one-match suspension against Cadiz.
