According to a report from Spain, Bernardo Silva has opted to leave Manchester City this summer, with Barcelona being his reported destination of choice. The 29-year-old midfielder signed a contract extension with City last summer, keeping him at the club until 2026, with a reported release clause of €50 million.

This fee could be feasible for financially strapped Barcelona, provided they can sell certain players during the upcoming transfer window. Names like Ferran Torres and Raphinha have been mentioned as potential departures, with sporting director Deco facing tight financial constraints.

Silva, who represents Portugal internationally, has connections to Barcelona, as his family resides in the city. His compatriot Joao Felix recently revealed that Silva aims to wear Lionel Messi’s iconic No. 10 jersey at Camp Nou. Felix, currently on loan at Barcelona from Atletico Madrid, has publicly supported the move, urging the club to secure Silva’s signature.

In an interview with footballwave, Felix expressed his admiration for Silva’s talents and advocated for his potential arrival at Barcelona. He praised Silva’s exceptional qualities both on and off the pitch, highlighting his positive influence. Despite the potential financial challenges, Felix believes that bringing Silva to Barcelona would be a wise investment for the club.

However, Barcelona faces competition from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in their pursuit of Silva. With PSG undergoing a squad overhaul following Kylian Mbappe’s impending move to Real Madrid, they could offer an enticing alternative destination for Silva. Reports suggest that PSG attempted to sign Silva last summer without success, but they may revive their interest in the midfielder as a potential option.

Since his €70 million transfer from Monaco to Manchester City in 2017, Silva has been a standout performer at the Etihad Stadium. He has played a pivotal role in City’s success, contributing to five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, as well as triumphs in the Champions League and Club World Cup, among other honors. His departure would mark the conclusion of a highly successful chapter in his career with the English club.
