Former Liverpool player blasts Liverpool’s decision to go for Arne Slot

It seems that the prospective appointment of Arne Slot as the new Liverpool manager is not generating much excitement among fans and pundits.

The criticism of Liverpool’s potential hiring of Arne Slot as their next manager continues, with a former Liverpool star expressing disapproval.

Despite earlier links to Ruben Amorim and Roberto Di Zerbi, and Xabi Alonso being considered a strong candidate before committing to Bayer Leverkusen, Feyenoord’s Slot seems to be the frontrunner to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Arne Slot’s potential move to Liverpool has gained traction, with recent reports suggesting a deal could be finalized over the weekend following his expressed interest in the position.

Slot, who has achieved success with Feyenoord in the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup in the Netherlands, is known for prioritizing the integration of young players. Despite his credentials, the appointment hasn’t sparked much excitement among Liverpool supporters.

This sentiment is echoed by former Liverpool player Steve Nicol, who made over 400 appearances for the club.

Steve Nicol, the Scotsman and former Liverpool player, appears unimpressed by Arne Slot’s CV as he prepares to take on the Liverpool managerial role.

“Is that the resume of somebody to lead a club the size of Liverpool back to the Premier League title and the Champions League? I mean I can’t honestly say that,” Nicol said, discussing Slot on ESPN.

“All the other boxes have been ticked, the way they play the game, the way he goes about it, he’s going to be able to coach.

“But is it really a resume to take over one of the biggest clubs in the land? I’m not sure it is, but what are the alternatives?”

“This one’s difficult, don’t you think, because, number one, there’s not a Klopp out there.

“So now you’re going to have to dig into whatever to try and figure out who the right man is and it seems like Arne Slot’s the guy that they’ve decided on for all of those reasons.”

A compensation fee for Slot’s move to Liverpool still needs to be negotiated, with Feyenoord reportedly seeking at least £8.6 million, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Slot intends to bring members of his backroom staff with him to Liverpool, but this would likely increase the total compensation fee to around £13 million.
