Jurgen Klopp was close to doing something ‘he has never done’ to his Liverpool team during Everton defeat

Jurgen Klopp came close to making history in Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Jurgen Klopp has acknowledged that he was on the verge of experiencing something unprecedented during Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to rivals Everton.

The defeat, marked by goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, marked Liverpool’s first Merseyside derby loss at Goodison Park since 2010.

The lackluster performance dealt a significant setback to Liverpool’s aspirations for the Premier League title.

Liverpool’s chances of securing Jurgen Klopp’s second Premier League trophy now hinge on slip-ups from both Arsenal and Manchester City.

Despite Klopp’s infrequent criticism of his team, he strongly condemned their recent performance, expressing his disdain in a press conference by stating, “I hated our game” and lamenting that they “were not even close to what we want to be.”

He further disclosed that, for the first time ever, he was tempted to resort to singing a German song to his players, alluding to their lack of fighting spirit.

He admitted: “And again the game was just horrible to watch. In Germany when the crowd is not happy with the team and they think they are not fighting enough they sing a song ‘Wir wollen euch kampfen sehen’ – that translates into ‘we want to see you fight.’

“I was close to singing that myself. Never has one of my teams heard that ever. Never. I never heard them say my team didn’t fight because my team [always] went for it. And now…wow, how can that happen?”

Liverpool have four games remaining in the season, with their next fixture being an away match against West Ham scheduled for the unpopular 12:30 kick-off slot on Saturday. They currently trail Manchester City by two points and Arsenal by three, both of whom have matches on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp is urging a strong response from his team following two defeats in their last three league games. “We believe, and the players do too, that we are capable of performing better,” he stated. “Now, we need to identify the right lineup and approach to significantly improve against West Ham.

If we can achieve a much better performance compared to our last game, then we should be capable of playing at a higher level, which could lead to victory against West Ham—but only if we raise our game significantly.”
