Grealish has been linked with a move away from City

One of Manchester City’s Premier League competitors has allegedly engaged in discussions regarding a remarkable transfer move for Jack Grealish.

Jack Grealish made headlines as the most expensive signing in Premier League history when he transferred to City in a £100 million deal from Aston Villa in 2021.

Initially, the England star faced challenges settling into Pep Guardiola’s side during his debut season at the club. However, in his second campaign, Grealish exhibited significant improvement and played a pivotal role in City’s historic treble victory.

This season, Grealish has experienced a regression in performance, particularly on the left flank. While the 28-year-old remains a key asset for Guardiola in terms of ball retention and stretching defenses with his width, his offensive contributions have dwindled to just three goals and three assists in 35 appearances.

Acknowledging the need to enhance his productivity in the final third, Grealish has openly admitted to his shortcomings in this aspect. However, despite his efforts, he has been unable to improve his numbers this season.

Despite having three years remaining on his six-year contract with City, Grealish is now rumored to be linked with a remarkable move to Chelsea. Journalist Simon Phillips suggests that Chelsea, despite already spending over £1 billion on players since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s takeover in 2022, could make a significant financial investment in acquiring Grealish.

On his Substack page, journalist Simon Phillips wrote: “Another winger I am told has been internally discussed at Chelsea recently, is Manchester City’s Jack Grealish. The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to his former club Aston Villa in recent weeks, and due to his bit-part role at City, there is a belief in the industry that he will be available for transfer this summer and also, he is likely to be open to moving to another club where he will have a more important role at.

“Chelsea have good transfer relations with City and of course, have signed Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer from them in recent years, both at reasonable fees.”

City sold Sterling to Chelsea for £45m in 2022, before recouping £40m for academy product Palmer last summer.”
