Fabrizio Romano names the four players that are likely to leave Chelsea in the summer as huge clear-out begins
The Blues are looking to trim down their squad..
As the summer transfer window approaches, Chelsea is bracing for another potential exodus, following the departure of 15 players at the start of this season, including notable names like Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. With Mauricio Pochettino eyeing squad restructuring, an additional four first-team players are rumored to be on their way out.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shed light on the upcoming window, indicating significant implications for Premier League clubs, including Chelsea. However, Chelsea must navigate cautiously due to financial constraints such as net spend and Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, which may influence their approach to player sales.
“We’re likely to see departures at Chelsea this summer, particularly with the players who are currently out on loan,” Romano told GiveMeSport.
“As previously reported, the plan is for Armando Broja to be sold once he comes back from his loan at Fulham, and Hakim Ziyech can already be considered to have played his last game for Chelsea.
“I also expect Romelu Lukaku and Ian Maatsen to leave Chelsea, but for the others, we have to wait and see what happens.”
Since his highly anticipated return to Chelsea in 2021, Romelu Lukaku has struggled to make a significant impact, leading to loan spells with Inter Milan and Roma. At 30 years old, the Belgian striker is likely considering his future options and has acknowledged the need to be strategic about his next move away from Stamford Bridge.
“I don’t want any controversy with them in England,” he recently told Sky Sports.
“I have to be smart, you know what I mean”.
Continuing his impressive form away from his parent club, Romelu Lukaku has scored 20 goals in all competitions this season. While speculation suggests Saudi Arabia as a potential destination, it remains uncertain whether Roma will pursue a permanent deal to retain him beyond the summer months.
