Arne Slot ‘asks Liverpool to trigger £51.4m release clause’ of Man City target set to star at Euro 2024

Arne Slot Requests Liverpool to Pay £51.4 Million for In-Demand Playmaker
Arne Slot, set to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager this summer, has asked the club to pay £51.4 million for a player also wanted by Manchester City. The Dutch coach, currently with Feyenoord, will take over at Anfield with Klopp stepping down after nine years. Although Slot’s appointment has not been officially confirmed, a deal has been agreed with Feyenoord for the 45-year-old’s move.
Slot has expressed his eagerness to manage Liverpool and expects his move to be finalized soon. With Feyenoord’s Eredivisie campaign concluding this weekend, Slot is already planning for his new role. He is particularly keen on bringing in a new playmaker, identifying RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo as his top target.
The 26-year-old Spaniard, who can play centrally or on either flank, would enhance Liverpool’s versatile attacking options. According to Spanish publication Nacional, Slot has urged Liverpool to activate the £51.4 million release clause in Olmo’s contract before other interested clubs, including Barcelona and Manchester City, make a move. Pep Guardiola of Manchester City has previously shown significant interest in the playmaker.

Liverpool are no strangers to dealing with RB Leipzig, having signed Dominik Szoboszlai from the German club last summer by triggering his £60 million release clause. Despite Szoboszlai’s mixed season, Liverpool remain keen on signing another player from Leipzig.
The £51.4 million release clause in Dani Olmo’s contract means Liverpool can avoid the prolonged negotiations that Manchester City experienced when signing Josko Gvardiol from Leipzig last summer. Olmo, who is expected to be a key player for Spain at Euro 2024 in Germany, will face Italy, Croatia, and Albania in the group stages.
