Manchester United is reportedly targeting Ivan Provedel from Lazio, according to Footballwave. At 29, Provedel has become one of Serie A’s top goalkeepers and a regular in Italy’s national squad. Remarkably, he is the top goalscoring goalkeeper worldwide this season.

Provedel made headlines during the Champions League group stage by scoring a crucial late goal, securing a 1-1 draw for Lazio against Atletico Madrid, which helped Lazio advance to the last-16 stage. This was only the third time in Champions League history that a goalkeeper scored during open play.

Provedel’s scoring feats are not new; he scored a late equalizer while on loan at Juve Stabia in 2020 and initially started his career as a striker, scoring 27 goals for Pordenone’s youth team before switching to goalkeeper.

Manchester United’s interest in Provedel suggests a potential replacement for Andre Onana, who has struggled since his €51 million transfer from Inter Milan. Onana, despite his reputation as a top ball-playing goalkeeper, has made significant errors, particularly in the Champions League losses to Galatasaray and Bayern Munich.

Lazio’s €35 million price tag for Provedel might be a barrier for a January transfer, but Manchester United may consider a summer move. This pursuit indicates the club’s intent to reinforce key positions and address their competitive challenges.
