Despite Manchester United’s FA Cup victory, the club is reportedly considering alternatives to manager Erik ten Hag. Goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo secured a surprising win over league champions Manchester City, with Jeremy Doku’s late goal for City not affecting the final outcome. This triumph guarantees United’s participation in European football next season, despite their worst-ever Premier League finish in eighth place.

Ten Hag has warned United’s board that he is ready to win trophies elsewhere if they decide not to retain him. The victory on Saturday marked his second domestic trophy in two seasons, following the Carabao Cup win in 2023.

United faces a choice on whether to keep Ten Hag or find new leadership. While Ten Hag could remain in charge, the club has reportedly considered Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Frank as possible replacements. According to The Telegraph, United has had meetings with representatives of both Pochettino, who is a free agent after leaving Chelsea, and Frank, who is currently contracted with Brentford.

These discussions come after earlier talks with representatives of Kieran McKenna, a former United coach who has achieved consecutive promotions with Ipswich Town. McKenna is also being considered by Chelsea as a potential successor to Pochettino.

A decision on Ten Hag’s future does not appear imminent. He has continued with his holiday plans after the cup final as intended, but he made sure to communicate with the club’s executives immediately following the match at Wembley.
