Gary Neville believes Erik ten Hag has matched Jose Mourinho as the most successful Manchester United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson. The club’s owners are currently deciding whether to retain Ten Hag or let him go after their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
“There’s no doubt Ten Hag’s FA Cup win has put Manchester United in a difficult position. This Premier League season has been unacceptably poor for the club,” Neville stated on The Overlap.
“Ten Hag will argue that he hasn’t had a consistent squad to choose from, especially in defense. However, the lack of control in many games has been concerning.
“Still, he has won two cups in two years, proving he can secure trophies with this team. He has matched Jose Mourinho’s success at United post-Ferguson. I believe he deserves the chance to continue.
“But there’s no one available who could immediately elevate this United squad to another level. Even with Guardiola in charge, this United team wouldn’t win the Premier League.”
