Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has hinted at a major coaching development at Anfield, mirroring a move made by former manager Jurgen Klopp. During his farewell, Klopp prematurely mentioned Arne Slot, who was confirmed as Liverpool’s head coach the following day. Similarly, Van Dijk has hinted at Sipke Hulshoff’s appointment as the new assistant manager.

In an interview, Van Dijk expressed his happiness for Slot and Hulshoff, despite the latter missing the upcoming Euro 2024 training camp. This has led to speculation that Hulshoff, who recently resigned from his role with the Netherlands national team, is set to join Liverpool’s coaching staff.

Reports indicate Liverpool wants to avoid any job overlap for Hulshoff, ensuring his full focus on Liverpool’s pre-season preparations starting in early July. Unlike some coaches who juggle club and national team duties, Liverpool prefers Hulshoff to concentrate solely on his role at Anfield.

While the club has not officially announced Hulshoff’s appointment, it is expected he will replace Pep Lijnders as assistant manager, joining Slot in replicating their successful partnership from Feyenoord. An official statement from Liverpool regarding Hulshoff’s role is anticipated soon.
