Vinicius Junior matches incredible Lionel Messi record in Champions League final as Real Madrid make club history
Vinicius Junior equaled a remarkable record set by Lionel Messi as Real Madrid triumphed over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final at Wembley. Real Madrid secured their 15th European Cup victory with second-half goals from Vinicius and Dani Carvajal.
The match began with Dortmund dominating the first half, creating several significant chances. Karim Adeyemi nearly opened the scoring early on, but his final touch slipped away after rounding Thibaut Courtois. Niclas Füllkrug also hit the post, although his effort would have been ruled out for offside.
Real Madrid struggled to make an impact in the first half, failing to register a shot on target. However, they turned the game around in the second half. Carvajal broke the deadlock with a powerful header from a Toni Kroos corner. Vinicius then sealed the victory by calmly slotting the ball past Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
With his goal, Vinicius matched Messi’s record of being directly involved in 22 goals in the knockout stages of the Champions League before turning 24, with 11 goals and 11 assists. This achievement places him alongside Messi in an exclusive group of players.
Real Madrid also made history by completing the entire Champions League campaign unbeaten for the first time. This latest European triumph underscores the enduring prowess of Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who delivered a masterful second-half performance to claim the title.
