Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, of Nigerian descent, is undergoing a medical at Chelsea on Tuesday ahead of his free transfer to Stamford Bridge. The 26-year-old, whose contract with Fulham expires this summer, is set to reunite with new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, with whom he previously worked at Manchester City.
Chelsea has offered Adarabioyo a long-term contract, appreciating his Premier League experience and strong injury record. While Newcastle was also interested, Adarabioyo chose Chelsea, excited about the move and the opportunity to work under Maresca again.
Adarabioyo will be Maresca’s first signing, having agreed to the transfer over the weekend. His familiarity with Maresca and Chelsea’s European competition qualification made the move attractive.
A key player for Fulham, Adarabioyo aims to maintain a vital role at Chelsea rather than becoming a fringe player. At 6ft 5in, he will compete for playing time in a strong defensive lineup, with Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League participation necessitating squad rotation.
Described as a ‘fantastic’ defender by Darragh Lenihan, Adarabioyo is quick, strong, and comfortable on the ball, making this a potentially shrewd free transfer deal for Chelsea.
