Liverpool release 10 players as Arne Slot wields the axe but shock contract offered to one unexpected player

Liverpool has confirmed that 10 players have exited the club following the conclusion of the 23/24 season. After their Premier League campaign culminated in a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield, it was revealed that Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip would be departing due to the expiration of their contracts.
Thiago, the Spanish midfielder, saw limited playing time this season, featuring for only five minutes in a match against Arsenal. Meanwhile, defender Matip’s season was prematurely ended by an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in December against Sheffield United.

The club announced the departures of these two players alongside several others in a statement released on Wednesday morning. The list includes Adam Lewis, Melkamu Frauendorf, Mateusz Musialowski, Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne, and Cody Pennington, all departing after their contracts expired.
Additionally, Liverpool has extended contract offers to Adrian, Jacob Poytress, and Reece Trueman. The club expressed gratitude to the departing players for their contributions and wished them well for the future.
With Jurgen Klopp’s departure after nearly nine years as manager, Liverpool is entering a new era under Dutchman Arne Slot, who assumed the role of head coach on June 1. This transition likely influenced the club’s decisions regarding player departures.
