Manchester United co-owner and INEOS boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe has pinpointed Rafael Leao as the crucial winger to create a “world-class front line” at the club this summer. With the media linking United to various attacking options like Ivan Toney and Jonathan David, Ratcliffe’s focus on Leao underscores the club’s strategy to address its current offensive challenges.

Anthony Martial is anticipated to depart at season’s end, with Monaco and Marseille showing interest, leaving United with only Rasmus Hojlund as a forward. Additionally, with Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood unlikely to return, the need for another winger is evident. Rather than signing separate players for striker and winger positions, United aims to secure versatile attackers capable of excelling in both roles.

Leao, currently at AC Milan, fits this profile. According to TEAMtalk, Ratcliffe is keen on acquiring the Portuguese star, who impressed with 16 goals and 15 assists last season and continues to perform well this season with multiple contributions in Serie A and European competitions.

However, signing Leao could be difficult as he recently renewed his contract with Milan, indicating his contentment at the club. Ratcliffe may need to make a substantial offer to lure him to Old Trafford. Furthermore, Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations could complicate United’s plans for the summer transfer window.
