According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has finally won the race over Liverpool and Manchester City to get an extraordinary defender who is worth sixty million pounds. The signing of the player has been approved, the paperwork has been completed, and the medical tests are scheduled to begin this coming Friday.
The club has already reached a personal terms agreement with the central defender, despite initial concerns over the £80 million asking price.
As reported by FT, Branthwaite is close to completing his move to Manchester United.
Negotiations between the Red Devils and Everton have advanced considerably, with Everton now willing to accept offers between £50 million and £60 million.
Nevertheless, they aim for a total package of £65 million when including performance objectives and add-ons.
Everton is set to make a significant profit from this sale, having acquired Branthwaite from Carlisle for only £1 million in 2020.
Since then, the young defender has shown his potential, especially during a successful loan to PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie during the 2022-23 season, followed by an impressive Premier League performance last season.
Manchester United is poised to secure a promising talent in Branthwaite, who is expected to eventually replace Raphael Varane in the team’s defense.
Enhancing the backline is a priority for the club, and signing the English starlet would be a major step forward for United under Ratcliffe’s leadership. The deal is anticipated to be completed before the end of the current month.
