Manchester United are making decisive moves in the summer transfer window, having recently parted ways with eight players. With Erik ten Hag firmly established as manager, the club is now concentrating on strengthening its squad with new talent. Reports from Portuguese publication A Bola, as relayed by Sport Witness, reveal that United have set their sights on two standout performers from Euro 2024, both playing for Sporting CP in Portugal.

One of the targets attracting attention is Morten Hjulmand, who has received significant acclaim following his memorable goal that equalized the score for Denmark against England. Known for his powerful strikes, Hjulmand joined Sporting CP in 2023 for €18 million. His debut season was marked by contributions that helped Sporting secure the Primeira Liga title, earning him accolades and a place in Portugal’s Team of the Year. Despite his rise and reported interest from Manchester United, Hjulmand remains a valuable asset at Sporting CP, often deemed indispensable to the team. His release clause is set at €80 million, highlighting the challenge of any potential transfer.

In addition to Hjulmand, United are also targeting Goncalo Inacio, another talented player from Sporting CP making an impact at Euro 2024 as part of Portugal’s national team. Inacio, a 22-year-old center-back, demonstrated his prowess by playing a crucial role in Portugal’s recent comeback victory against the Czech Republic. His release clause stands at €60 million, a figure that has reportedly captured Manchester United’s interest as they seek to fortify their defensive line.

Central defense has become a priority for United in this transfer window, with reports indicating their pursuit of reinforcements such as Jarrad Branthwaite and Leny Yoro. The interest in Inacio aligns with their strategy to strengthen the backline, adding depth and quality to their defensive options.

For United, securing these talents would not only improve their squad but also signal their intent to compete at the highest levels of European football. As negotiations and discussions progress, the club remains proactive in shaping their roster under Erik ten Hag’s tenure, aiming to build a formidable team capable of challenging for domestic and continental honors.

In conclusion, while the path to acquiring Morten Hjulmand or Goncalo Inacio may be fraught with financial challenges, Manchester United’s pursuit highlights their commitment to strategic recruitment and their ambition to assemble a squad capable of sustained success in the seasons ahead.
