In recent days, Joshua Zirkzee has emerged as Manchester United’s primary target for the striker position as the club seeks a reliable forward to compete with Rasmus Hojlund for a starting spot.

Zirkzee’s addition would strengthen United’s attacking options and serve as a replacement for Anthony Martial, who is set to depart Old Trafford at the end of the current month.

Previously, AC Milan was leading the race to sign Zirkzee and had even received the player’s approval to move forward. However, negotiations stalled due to the commission demands from Zirkzee’s agent, Kia Joorabchian. Initially, Joorabchian requested a hefty €15 million fee, which Milan was unwilling to meet. Despite lowering the asking price, Milan still refused to comply, creating an opening for Manchester United.

According to The Peoples Person, Joorabchian is now offering Manchester United a significant discount on his commission to facilitate Zirkzee’s transfer to Old Trafford. He now seeks only £8 million from Erik ten Hag’s team. Journalist Nick Semeraro updated the situation on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Manchester United have found an agreement in principle with Kia Joorabchian on the payment of commissions.”

“Bologna is aware of the Red Devils’ willingness to pay the clause (as anticipated yesterday). Now it depends on the will of the player, who is currently involved in the European football championships.”

Despite United’s progress, Milan remains confident and hopeful that Zirkzee will choose them. Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth supports Semeraro’s report, noting that the final decision rests with Zirkzee. “Manchester United is expected to meet the €40 million release clause in Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee’s contract. If they do, it’s up to the player to decide whether he wants to talk. Strong interest remains from other clubs.”

Zirkzee is currently with the Dutch national team, participating in Euro 2024, and his decision will be crucial in determining his next club.
