MAN UTD SEE OFFER FOR PSG MIDFIELDER MANUEL UGARTE REJECTED
Manchester United have made an offer to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, but their initial bid has been rejected, according to French outlet L’Equipe. Ugarte, who joined PSG last year from Sporting Lisbon for £51.8 million, is under contract until 2028 but struggled to secure a regular starting spot under Luis Enrique, starting only 21 matches in Ligue 1 last season.
United are reportedly reigniting their interest in Ugarte as they look to reinforce their midfield. This comes amidst uncertainty about the futures of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Sofyan Amrabat, with Casemiro particularly rumored to be attracting interest from Saudi Pro League clubs. Erik ten Hag is keen to bring in a new starting midfielder, and Ugarte, known for his tough-tackling style, fits the profile United are seeking.
Negotiations are ongoing despite the initial rejection, and United are reportedly prepared to make another attempt. INEOS, part-owner of Manchester United, has given the green light to pursue Ugarte, emphasizing their strategy to bring in young talents this summer. Ugarte is also attracting interest from clubs in Italy and Germany, including AC Milan.
In addition to their midfield reinforcement plans, Manchester United are also advancing in talks to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth. The Dutch striker, who has a release clause of £34 million, had an impressive season with Bologna and is also on AC Milan’s radar. United are looking to partner Zirkzee with Rasmus Hojlund as they seek to bolster their attacking options for the next season. The club is also considering Hoffenheim starlet Maximilian Beier as another potential option.
As United prepare for significant changes in their squad, these potential signings indicate a strategic move to strengthen key positions and improve their performance following a disappointing league campaign.
