Barcelona is preparing to finalize a historic deal and sign Messi’s teammate and world champion
Barcelona is gearing up to revitalize its squad and launch the next season with renewed vigor, viewing the transfer market as a prime opportunity to bolster its ranks with top-tier talent. Under the guidance of German coach Hansi Flick, the Catalan club aims to maximize the potential of its players, but acknowledges the necessity of securing key signings to complement their ambitions.
According to reports from “Sport,” Barcelona is keen on acquiring Julian Alvarez, the Argentine striker from Manchester City, whom Lionel Messi has praised as “amazing” under Flick’s leadership. The club sees Alvarez as a pivotal addition to enhance their attacking options, aligning well with their strategic vision. The 24-year-old had an impressive season with City, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists across 54 matches in all competitions.
Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, reportedly views signing Alvarez as a strategic move ahead of the club’s upcoming presidential elections, aiming to reinforce the squad following Messi’s departure due to financial constraints. Laporta had initially planned to extend Messi’s contract but now sees Alvarez’s potential arrival as a means to strengthen the team and appease the fanbase.
Messi himself has lauded Alvarez’s abilities, particularly highlighting his instrumental role in Argentina’s victorious 2022 World Cup campaign. In an interview with the Manchester Evening News, Messi praised Alvarez’s unexpected impact, describing him as crucial to their historic success.
The Spanish newspaper also indicates that Flick intends to leverage Messi’s influence to persuade Alvarez to join Barcelona, emphasizing the strategic importance of this potential signing to bolster the club’s attacking prowess and overall competitiveness.
