Uruguayan international and Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is set to depart from Barcelona after the Copa America to join a surprising Premier League club this summer.
Recent reports from Spain reveal that Barcelona has set a substantial asking price of over €100 million (£84.6 million) for their talented defender Ronald Araujo.
Both Manchester United and Chelsea are keenly interested in bolstering their defensive ranks this summer, with Araujo prominently featuring on their wish lists. Barcelona, facing financial challenges, has been compelled to consider player sales to fund their own transfer pursuits, including targeting Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona remains steadfast in their stance on Araujo, indicating they will not entertain offers below the €100 million mark.
This firm stance reflects the high regard in which they hold the 25-year-old center-back, despite reported interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich. Notably, both Manchester United and Bayern Munich had previously attempted to secure Araujo’s services during the January transfer window.
Araujo, recognized for his defensive prowess, has earned praise within the club, with sources highlighting his importance and quality in the team’s backline.
However, amidst speculation about his future, Araujo has maintained his focus on the Copa America, where he is fully committed to representing his national team.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has also seen them linked with Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.
The 24-year-old Dutch defender, who had a somewhat limited Bundesliga campaign last season, is reportedly eager for a move to Old Trafford. Bayern Munich has set a price tag of €50 million (£42 million) for De Ligt, who is currently preparing with the Netherlands squad for their Euro 2024 quarterfinal clash against Turkey.
