Adrien Rabiot appeared to question Lamine Yamal’s impact before Spain’s clash with France on Tuesday night, but the 16-year-old had the last laugh by helping his nation reach the Euro 2024 final. Spain’s wonderkid Lamine Yamal responded emphatically, scoring a stunning equalizer in the first half of the semi-final to inspire his country to a memorable 2-1 comeback victory over their European rivals. It was a perfect response to Rabiot’s remarks, where he had suggested that Yamal needed to do more to influence the match against France.

In a press conference leading up to the game, Rabiot had remarked, “If Lamine Yamal wants to play in the Euro final with Spain, he will have to do much more against us than he has done so far. We will put pressure on him so that he is not comfortable.” However, Yamal’s performance on the pitch spoke volumes as he not only leveled the score but also became the youngest ever goalscorer in Euros history.

After the final whistle, Yamal headed straight for the TV cameras, repeatedly saying “speak now,” a clear message directed at Rabiot. This gesture encapsulated Yamal’s confidence and determination, proving his ability to perform under pressure and deliver when it mattered most.

The semi-final itself was a thrilling encounter, with Spain overcoming an early deficit after Randal Kolo Muani’s opener for France. Dani Olmo swiftly added what turned out to be the winning goal, sealing Spain’s victory and booking their place in Sunday’s final against either England or the Netherlands.

Yamal’s goal, a precise curling shot from 25 yards that nestled in off the post, highlighted his technical prowess and composure at just 16 years and 362 days old. Spain’s triumph marked their sixth consecutive win at the Euros without needing penalties, underlining their dominance in the tournament.

Manager Luis De la Fuente expressed his pride in the team’s collective effort and determination, emphasizing their focus on continuing to make history. He praised Yamal’s moment of brilliance but also urged him to maintain humility and dedication in his development. De la Fuente expressed confidence in the team’s potential to improve further, setting high expectations for their performance in the upcoming final.
